Thoughts for the day
The Verdict is in about Final Cut Pro X
Posted on the 24th June 2011.
The latest iteration of Final Cut Pro has been released, however the feedback is not too bright.
Here at KeyDesignz, we have been working in the film industry for about 7 years now and seen a lot of changes in that time, including the whole DSLR revolution. If you are not aware, Canon sparked a revolution in indy filmmakers and were responsible for growing an entire industry of tools around these still cameras. The fact that anyone can buy a 2.5k digital stills camera and shoot footage that rivals anything you would see on the big screen, certainly exemplifies this. Apple has released their newest iteration of their flagship editing software - Final Cut Pro X and already the parody's about the software are mounting. The fact that I can't do half what I normally do in Final Cut Pro 7 is a deal breaker for me. Check out the Conan skit below.
Have a look at a dozen forums on the subject, I can't find anything really positive about the software in regards to the way I use it. I for one will be looking toward AVID in the future as I think it is time for them to capitalise on Apple's misfortune in this regard. I hate to say this as I am probably the biggest fan of Apple, but I am disappointed in their Microsoft like tactics of late.
